The appeal of cosmetic surgery has risen over the years. Confidence grows as surgeons perfect techniques and gains expertise. While trendy procedures such as labiaplasty and Brazilian butt lifts come and go, the following surgeries remain at the top and are performed consistently since their inception:

  • Breast Augmentation

Women have been dissatisfied with their breasts since before a bra was ever burned. Compounded by years of breastfeeding, the breast can sag and lose its shape. The first augmentation surgery in America was performed in 1962 on Timmie Jean Lindsay in Houston Texas. Not because she hated her breasts, but because she hated her big ears. So she struck a deal and agreed to be the first breast implant recipient if the surgeons would pin her ears at the same time. She went from a B to a C cup and she was happy with the results. It doesn’t matter whether your breasts are too small, too large, or asymmetrical, in 2017 there is a solution that will please you. Nipples can be sculpted and breasts can be lifted. Breast augmentation is performed on women of all ages and remains one of the most popular procedures today.

  • Liposuction

Although liposuction was performed by a French surgeon in the 1920’s, it really wasn’t perfected here in America until the 70’s-80’s. It continues to be one of the most requested procedures. Physicians use it along with surgery to sculpt and contour. It improves cosmetic artistry overall, while it remains popular on its own.

  • Abdominoplasty

We have come a long way since the first abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) surgery was performed in the early 1900’s. At that time the belly button had to be removed. Of course, now abdomens are restored and renewed without sacrificing our belly buttons. Tummy tucks are one of the most frequently requested surgical procedures and with current technologies, we see amazing results. Multiple pregnancies, extreme weight fluctuations, and aging all take a toll on our abdomens. The muscles get stretched and excess skin is stubborn and difficult to get rid of. Some may have undesirable stretch marks or c-section scars. All of those problems are addressed with abdominoplasty. During the procedure, excess skin and scars are removed and muscles are tightened. “As long as the patient maintains their weight with a balanced diet and regular exercise abdominoplasty will provide long-lasting results”.

  • Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Eyelid surgery remains popular and that won’t be changing anytime soon as baby boomers age. This procedure “reduces bagginess from the lower eyelids and removes excess skin from the upper eyelids”. Another form of this procedure for Asians is the “double eyelid surgery which is designed to reshape the skin around the eye and create a crease”. “This East Asian Blepharoplasty is reported to be the most common aesthetic procedure performed in Taiwan”.

  • Face-lift (Rhytidectomy)

The first cosmetic face-lift was done in Berlin in 1901 by German surgeon Eugen Hollander after an elderly Polish aristocrat asked him to “lift her cheeks and the corners of her mouth.”” World war II brought advances to cosmetic surgeries as wounded soldiers were willing candidates. The surgical expertise has improved dramatically since that time and approximately 130,000 face-lifts a year are performed in America, making it one of the top five cosmetic surgeries.

  • Non-Invasive Techniques

Many people prefer non-invasive techniques to surgery. The most popular non-invasive procedures are; Botox injections, soft tissue fillers, chemical peels, laser hair removal, body sculpting, and microdermabrasion. The results wont be as dramatic or last as long. Non-invasive techniques combined with surgery will give a more dramatic result. Some of these procedures need to be touched up in three months where others may last years.
